Stamford AFC’s FA Trophy tie against Hereford United at the Zeeco Stadium today (January 16) has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

The Daniels have not seen competitive action since their 1-0 third round win over another non-league big gun Kidderminster Harriers on December 15.

Kidderminster are currently fourth in the National North League - two divisions higher than Stamford - while Hereford are 14th.

Stamford have bolstered their ranks ahead of the big game by signing former Stockport, Rotherham and Mansfield goalkeeper Conrad Logan (34), a player with close to 350 professional appearances, and highly regarded non-league centre-back Nathan Stainfield.

But Drury told the Stamford Mercury: “We had played the weekend before the Kidderminster match in the last round which gave us a chance to get our legs going and get a little bit sharper in a competitive match.

“We haven’t had that this time so it is backs against the walls because they have got a bigger squad and their fitness levels will be higher than ours.

“We are in a positive mood though and we believe in what we do.

“If the players play to the game-plan and they are all in tip-top shape and put the maximum effort in then that is all we can ask for.”
