Peterborough Sports manager Jimmy Dean is as good as any manager in non-league football according to Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony.

MacAnthony has been impressed with the rise of the city club from the Peterborough League a decade ago to the National North League this season, most of it achieved under the management of Dean who took over before the start of the 2015-16 season.

And the Posh chairman is not surprised Sports have started the first step 2 season – they are just two promotions from the Football League – in their history pretty well. They have taken 4 points from their opening 3 matches.

"Jimmy Dean is as good a manager as anyone in non-league football,” MacAnthony said on the latest edition of his Hard Truth podcast. “In fact I’m surprised he’s still there.

"That’s not me wanting someone to come and take him on, but the rise his club have experienced under his management has been incredible. He’s not even full-time so imagine what he could go on and do.

"He will manage a lot higher. He will get to the division above or maybe even a League Two club.

“I know from speaking to people at my club just how highly they rate him. He instills camraderie that underdogs need.

"I am not surprised they have started well and they will go on to have a good season. I know the owners are backing him.”
