Chatteris puncher Jordan Gill is back in big-time action tomorrow night (February 20) with a fight against tough Mexican Cesar Juarez at Wembley (February 20).

The featherweight contest is part of the undercard on a Sky Sports ‘Fight Night’ show featuring a European welterweight title fight between David Avanesyan and Josh Kelly.

Gill, who is nicknamed ‘The Thrill’ is expecting a tough contest, but a win would give him a world ranking and keep him on track for his ultimate goal of a world title win.

Juarez (29) fought for a world super bantamweight title in 2015, but has lost nine of his 35 fights. He has won 19 fights by knockout, but he’s lost his last two bouts and Gill will hope the Mexican is in decline.

Gill (26) has won all but one of his 26 contests, most recently a stylish points success over Matchroom stablemate Reece Bellotti on August 1, a fight that took place in promoter Barry Hearn’s back garden, also live on Sky TV.

Gill is renowned for his slippery footwork and fast hands. He has won seven bouts by knockout and works in Sheffield with renowned trainer Dave Caldwell.

Gill, who was given just two weeks notice of his latest fight, but who has been hard at work in training camps since he was last in action, told Boxing News: “This is a great fight against Juarez, it’s going to be all action. You only have to look at his resume. He had one of the fights of the year against Donaire in 2015 and the only guys that have beat him are World Champions or top 10 world ranked fighters.

“I want to win and look good, I know it’s not going to be an easy task but it’s a challenge that I’m relishing. I’m expecting a tough fight but at this stage of my career this is the step-up I need. He’s the best fighter I’ve faced.

“I know Juarez will be coming to win. He’s going to be tough! You hit Mexican fighters with the kitchen sink and they still keep coming forward. I’ve got to make it as one-sided as I can.

“Juarez is from the same camp as Tinoco, who beat me, so they will be licking their lips! I see this as a step-up from Tinoco, so when I beat this guy, and beat him in the fashion I’m going to, it will prove a lot of people wrong and will be my career-best win.

“In my view, the win over Bellotti was a controlled but conservative performance. In this fight you will see a bit more of me!”

Gill notched 21 successive victories after making his professional debut in July 2012, earning a shot at the Commonwealth Featherweight title against then champion, Ryan Doyle.

He secured a seventh round stoppage to bring the belt home to the Fens, before stopping the experienced Emmanuel Dominiguez in three rounds to win the WBA International strap the fight after.

Gill suffered his only loss to the tough Enrique Tinoco in May 2019. He’s won twice since.

Sky fight night from 8pm.
