John Lewis in Queensgate Shopping Centre was evacuated this morning after reports of smoke coming from an escalator.
Several fire crews headed to the city centre early this morning.
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The store was safely evacuated and no firefighting action was required.
“All crews are now returning to their stations.”
