Peterborough charity to continue supporting the vulnerable throughout March and April

The pledge has been made by registered Muslim charity Unite 4 Humanity. The charity are based in Peterborough on Park Road and also have their own charity shop on Broadway in the city centre and support the homeless and needy.

Sonce 2014, with the support of Rafiq Catering, they have delivered over 20,000 hot meals to the homeless community of Peterborough. In March 2020, they took on the responsibility of providing meals to the members of the homeless community who were moved into the Park Inn Hotel, Great Northern Hotel, Thorpe Lodge Hotel and Queensgate Hotel at the start of the pandemic, providing 4000 hot meals.

A further 500 meals have been delivered to elderly residents, families struggling financially and those in isolation.

During the most recent lockdown, volunteers have distributed 120 food packs (valued at £50 each) to families self-isolating as well as giving thanks to the hard work of Peterborough’s ambulance service, police officers at Thorpe Wood station and doctors and nurses at Peterborough City Hospital by delivering yet more meals.

The charity have now pledged to continue this support throughout March and April and last week received a visit from Peterborough MP Paul Bristow.

He said: “It was great to join the team at Unite 4 Humanity as they prepared food for rough sleepers. They do super work here locally helping those in need.

“Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, they have been supporting rough sleepers accommodated in local hotels with food and supplies.

“Peterborough is a caring city and local people give generously to this and other great local charities, they make me proud of Peterborough.”

Alongside their work in the city, Unite 4 Humanity will be continuing to operate in some of the most deprived and war-torn regions such as in Yemen, Syria, Pakistan and parts of Africa, supplying meals, food packs, setting up water projects, building houses for the poor, as well as building schools and medical camps.

Chairman Shezad Yousaf said: “We are delighted to be continuing to offer support to the community of Peterborough and for their support in return, all of the money we raise will go towards continuing to provide for the homeless in the city.

“We are also very grateful to Paul Bristow for coming and recognising our work but also for connecting us up with a local businessman who was looking to support the homeless in Peterborough, who has since made a large donation.”
