Bengali community celebrate Autumn Festival with colourful procession through Ferry Meadows

Durgastav celebrated over three days in Peterborough

The Bengali community in Peterborough celebrated the Autumn Festival with a colourful procession through Ferry Meadows.

The Bengali Sanskriti Club celebrated Durgastav (otherwise known as Autumn Festival) with a series of events, starting at the Boizot Lounge in Peterborough. The Durgastav is an annual Hindu festival aimed at paying homage to Goddess Durga. The Hindus believe Goddess Durga symbolises good over evil and every year she comes down to earth to stamp out all evil deeds.

This festival is immensely important to all Hindus because it reminds them of their duties and obligations they were born with to do good deeds to their fellow human beings despite differences in their faiths, cultures and ethnicities. This festival is religious, but more so a cultural and social event aimed at fostering community cohesion, tolerance and understanding.
