The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Fostering Service (CPFS) has said it urgently needs carers to look after 18 children who have been forced to leave their own family or country.
The CPFS is desperately keen to hear from caring people who are at least 21 years-old, have a spare bedroom and are full-time UK residents.

Hide AdCouncillor Bryony Goodliffe, Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee, said: “The need for people to look after unaccompanied minors is crucial right now.”
Most of the youngsters in question are seeking a safe haven from violence, persecution, war, detention, climate change or, terrorism.
In some cases children are having to cope with the disappearance of their family altogether.
Many of those in peril often take long and dangerous journeys alone to reach our shores. Others are trafficked in circumstances unknown to them, arriving at their destination feeling confused, alone, and disorientated.

Councillor Goodliffe told the Peterborough Telegraph that fostering is a life-changing experience:
“Fostering is a really rewarding role which makes a massive difference to vulnerable children and young people. It literally changes lives.”
“Fostering for your local authority provides the best possible start to your journey as a foster carer.”

Foster carers can then step in to support the minors further, helping them to maintain their cultural and religious identity as they integrate into their new community.
As well as helping to guide vulnerable children and young people through their early years, those who choose to become a part of the Local Authority’s Fostering Community play an integral role in supporting children and young people to heal, and develop into happy, healthy adults with a bright future.Anyone interested in fostering and/or adopted unaccompanied minors is encouraged to find out more by calling 0800 052 0078 or sending an email to [email protected].
