Property had become a magnet for anti-social and criminal behaviour in the town in recent months

A house in Oundle has been shut down by police after concerns surrounding drug crime and other issues were raised by residents living near by.

Multiple issues connected to the property in St Peters Road had been reported to police, including suspected drug dealing in and around the house, as well as persistent anti-social behaviour.

A number of warrants were undertaken at the address before the East Northamptonshire Neighbourhood Policing Team managed to secure a closure order, meaning no one can enter the building until 2024.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Leigh Francoise Goodwin, said the order would be good news for residents.

Sgt Goodwin said: “This property was causing a lot of concern amongst the local community, many of whom are elderly or have young families. Due to the issues surrounding the house, they had even stopped using the recreation ground next to it.

“I’m really pleased therefore that we have managed to obtain this closure order and I hope it demonstrates that we are passionate about listening to our local communities and acting on the things that are concerning them.

“Finally, I want to commend PC Declan Morgan who worked tirelessly to achieve this result. His hard work secured the evidence needed to present this case at Northampton Magistrates’ Court and succeed in obtaining this closure order.”
